Boston Dynamics has appointed Rohit Prasad as Chief Executive Officer, effective October 7, 2026. The company says his appointment will accelerate its strategy to combine advanced AI with robotics and expand Physical AI applications in real-world environments.

Who is Rohit Prasad?

Prasad joins Boston Dynamics after 12 years at Amazon, where he served as Senior Vice President and Head Scientist for Alexa and Artificial General Intelligence. He was involved in building Alexa and later led the development of the Amazon Nova foundation model family. Before Amazon, he spent nearly 14 years at Raytheon BBN Technologies working on machine-learning research and applications.

Why Does His Appointment Matter?

Boston Dynamics says Prasad will focus on productizing intelligent robotic systems and bringing Physical AI into industrial and commercial environments to improve safety, productivity and operational efficiency.

The company currently has three robots in its portfolio:

  • Spot — industrial inspection and facility applications
  • Stretch — logistics and box handling
  • Atlas — electric humanoid platform currently in development

Prasad’s background in large-scale AI development adds another dimension to Boston Dynamics’ robotics expertise. The company’s stated direction is clear: combine advanced AI with capable physical machines and scale their use in the real world.

What Is Physical AI?

Physical AI refers to AI systems designed to perceive, reason and act in the physical world through machines such as robots.

For Boston Dynamics, the focus is on making robots more autonomous, adaptable and productive across real-world applications.

What Comes Next?

Rohit Prasad’s appointment places AI + robotics + commercialization at the center of Boston Dynamics’ next chapter.

The bigger question for the industry is no longer only how capable robots can become—but how effectively AI can make those robots useful in real-world work.
